Three years and loving every minute

Today marks the third anniversary of my first date with Nate. He called me on Aug. 18, 2005 per request of my then missionary brother, Leif. I remember Nate saying, "Hi! I'm Nate Phillips and I'm your brother's MTC teacher." I thought to myself, why in the heck is he calling my cell phone and not my parents'? I thought Nate was just calling to tell us how amazing Leif was as a missionary. Soon the conversation changed and Nate suggested going out to dinner sometime. I thought, "Really? Some 21-year-old recently returned missionary wants to take me, a 24-year-old out on a date?" I said yes (I can't pass up free dinner anytime, anyplace) and he suggested the following evening.
On Aug. 19, 2005, I met Nate for the first time. I remember seeing him pull up in his silver Mitsubishi. I initially thought it was a BMW and I thought, "Oh great, a snobby Timpview kid whose daddy bought him a shiny Beemer." Then he rang the doorbell. I hung up the phone with my mom and answered the door. Nate looks really young for his age so I thought it confirmed the fact that he was a young'un.
Nate took me to Magelby's for dinner. It was fabulous. We talked and talked and talked all through dinner and just really enjoyed each other's company. I remember how easily I was able to converse with him and how he didn't care that I was an RM, older than he (he's only 10 months younger than I), and was the daughter and sister of such mammoth men :). We ended up going to his brother Preston's football game. So, I met his ENTIRE family on our first date. It really didn't bother me at all! He, of course, loved the fact that I knew what "clipping" and "illegal formation" meant and didn't have to explain football to me.
Nate then drove me home and met my parents. They HAD to meet one of the men that was going to shape their son's missionary future. They immediately loved him and basically, so did I. Our first date is one of my most favorite memories in my life and I'm so blessed to have Nate in my life. I love that man!!! And, of course, props to Leif for hooking us up. They always say the Spirit is strongest in the MTC. So, thanks for following the promptings, Leif!

Hey, so every time I attempt any French speaking, (badly, might I add) I think of you. Not because you speak badly, of course, but because I think you were the best firsthand witness of my French...um...skills? Anyways, I found your blog through facebook, and I hope you don't mind if I keep up with you. :)
