Our icy front walkway. Our driveway was completely covered in ice. No salt or ice melt here!
Look at the whiteness of the street. That is all ice!
A week ago it was 77 degrees in the Dallas area. Keilah and I played outside all day and had a blast. Today, we woke up to an icy landscape and below freezing temperatures. Crazy! Last night we had an ice storm blow through. Coming from Utah, we didn't think it would be a big deal and everything would be melted by morning. They don't have snow plows that deice the streets or spit out sand here. Why would they? This rarely happens. However, when ice storms do hit, everything shuts down or is delayed. Nate left for work and returned home about 10 minutes later. The roads were so icy he couldn't get up a hill so he turned around, came back, and worked from home. Keilah looked outside this morning and said, "Snow! Snow!" and wanted to go outside and play in the iciness. All the schools started two to three hours late and a lot of businesses were closed. The strangest sight was going to Wal-Mart today around 11 a.m. and seeing maybe 15 cars in the entire parking lot. I've never seen Wal-Mart so uncrowded in my life and I probably never will again. Shopping was great today :) By early afternoon all the ice had melted and things were getting back to normal, although I miss the wonderful 70ish degree weather we had last week. Apparently Dallas gets and ice storm maybe once or twice a year. We've braved our first ice storm here and aren't eagerly awaiting another one (I'm praying we don't get another one at all!).
