What a Crazy Week!

I have come to the realization and understanding that babies are accident-prone no matter what you do to keep accidents from happening, but at the same time, they're made of rubber and survive almost anything. Last Monday (Feb. 25th) I was outside digging my car out of the snow. Our driveway is on a downslope so if we ever park our cars in the driveway while it snows then we're doomed to days of digging and burning rubber. I had Keilah in her Bumbo on the driveway (most of the snow had melted by then) and she was just playing around watching Mommy spread ice melt all over. When the time came for me to reverse the car out of the driveway, I ran Keilah inside so she would be safe while I was driving. Dumb Annika. Little did I know that while Keilah was sitting in her Bumbo outside, she had found a twig, about 1/2'' long and 1/4'' thick and had stuck it in her mouth. I couldn't get my car out of the driveway and after a few seconds of spinning rubber and frustration, I decided to go inside. As I stepped out of the car I heard the most blood curdling scream ever. My heart dropped into my stomach and I ran inside. Keilah was face down on the floor (I HATE hardwood floors) and was bawling. I thought, "Oh, she's just fallen again and Iwasn't there to help her up." I ran to her and when I picked her up, her mouth was bleeding! I jumped into mommy-nurse mode and checked for concussions, open sores, and broken bones. None of that seemed to be present. It turns out, the conspicuous twig had cut Keilah's inner-upper lip as she fell. No stitches were needed and her fat upper lip healed within a day or two. So, what did I learn from this? Babies fall, put things in their mouths, and to park my car on the street until spring is really here :) Here's a photo of Keilah's fat lip.

Keilah wasn't too traumatized, although falling down to her is so dramatic now. Later on that week our little group of mommies went to the Stamford Mall. They have a great kids play area with Looney Tunes characters and different veggies and fruits. It's made of that soft stuff so Keilah LOVED it! She could fall and practically bounce right back up off the floor because of the foam in the floor. She's getting better each day at walking along walls, couches, and anything else. We're now working on standing up all by herself and walking without holding onto our hands. I know this causes more falls and tears, but I also know that eventually it'll catch on and she'll be a cruising machine!

It is tough when they get hurt. But as long as you are there to make it better, they will be fine :)

I am not looking forward to when Jamin has his "owie" moments! It is good to know that babies can bounce back quickly!

oh that sounds like a day for you and Keila. Poor girl, never knew a twig could cause such a fuss. That place at the mall looks like a blast. I wish we had something like that here. I can't believe she is walking around holding onto things now, it is so crazy!
